Beyond Borders: 100% Remote.
At Baker Ing, we operate as a remote-first company by design, with a globally distributed team that enables us to draw on talent around the world to solve our clients’ most pressing receivables challenges. But as much as we value the efficiency and adaptability of our model, there’s something uniquely powerful about coming together in person — a chance to turn colleagues into friends, collaborators into confidants, and individual expertise into shared insight.
Our recent Baker Ing Global Summit brought the team together for just such a purpose. It was a day filled with camaraderie, reflection, and renewed commitment, where we reconnected with one another and rediscovered the values that make us a team with a shared mission. The day wasn’t just a team-building exercise; it was a celebration of what makes us, well, us. It reminded us of why we’re committed to a remote-first model — and how that model, paired with intentional connection, empowers us to deliver exceptional service to our clients.
The Magic of Meeting
For some of us, it was the first time meeting colleagues we work with daily but only know through screens. For most however, this was the welcome regular check-in which we look forward to. Handshakes and smiles quickly turned into meaningful conversations, reminding us of the people behind the emails, the personalities that add warmth to our Teams channels. The sense of connection is always instant and palpable, energising us for the day ahead.
We began with a series of insightful presentations from our senior leadership, to provide a comprehensive look at the key areas shaping Baker Ing’s future. Chris Snelson opened with a financial overview, giving us a clear picture of where we stand and where we’re headed. His analysis offered valuable insights into our financial health, reinforcing our collective commitment to sustainable, strategic growth.
Following Chris, Lisa Baker-Reynolds MCICM presented a sales overview, detailing how our strategies are aligning with client needs in new and impactful ways. Her session highlighted recent successes and identified opportunities where we can further enhance our responsiveness and client support. It was a call to action, encouraging every team member to think critically about how we engage with clients and reinforce Baker Ing’s role as a trusted partner.
Hans Meijer then took the stage to discuss partnerships, emphasising how our collaborations amplify our capabilities and extend our reach. Hans illustrated the importance of aligning with partners who share our values and commitment to excellence. His presentation sparked ideas on how we can leverage these relationships more effectively, particularly within our distributed structure, to better serve clients across diverse markets.
Finally, Markus Kuger, our Chief Economic Advisor, shared his perspective on current economic trends and their implications for our clients. Markus provided a strategic view of the global economic landscape, reminding us of the importance of understanding macroeconomic shifts as we support our clients through both stable and turbulent times. His insights encouraged us to think about the broader forces affecting credit and receivables and how Baker Ing can continue to provide foresight and guidance.
With team members from across regions and roles contributing their perspectives, the discussions that followed were a testament to the value of our global, diverse team.
Harnessing Global Talent for Local Expertise
One of the great advantages of being a remote-first team is that we’re able to assemble the best talent, regardless of location. Our summit reinforced just how powerful this can be. Each team member brings not only a unique skill set but also insights informed by different cultural and professional backgrounds. This diversity enriches our approach to receivables management and debt collection, enabling us to view client challenges from multiple angles and craft solutions that reflect an understanding of varied markets and industries.
The distributed structure offers a significant advantage in the nuanced world of high-stakes debt collection, where language and cultural insight can make all the difference. With team members spread across multiple regions, we’re able to approach each case with a level of cultural understanding that a single-location team would struggle to match. Debt collection is inherently sensitive work, requiring not only expertise in financial strategy but also a keen awareness of regional customs, communication styles, and expectations. Leveraging a diverse, multilingual team to ensure that we’re not only compliant with local regulations but also respectful of the cultural contexts in which we operate is vital.
This cultural fluency goes beyond language — it’s about understanding the subtleties of tone, the appropriate ways to address debtors, and the etiquette of financial discussions that vary widely from one country to another. A debt collection strategy that works in one region may be ineffective or even counterproductive in another. By tapping into the local knowledge and linguistic capabilities of our team members, we can engage with debtors in a way that respects their norms and fosters positive, constructive interactions. This approach not only improves collection outcomes but also reinforces our clients’ reputations as considerate and ethical partners in all markets.
At the summit, we saw this flexibility and cultural insight in action. As we moved through the day’s sessions, it became clear that our ability to hand off projects across time zones and leverage the local knowledge of our distributed team provides us with a powerful strategic advantage. Our team members can share insights on best practices from their regions, drawing from first-hand experience with local debtor behaviours and expectations. This cross-cultural knowledge flow strengthens our debt collection strategies and ensures that each interaction is tailored to the debtor’s cultural context.
Another interesting and related point which came to light during the summit is our inherent alignment with inclusivity. Without the geographic constraints of a traditional office, we are able to hire talent from diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and regions. This inclusivity strengthens our team culture, enhances our ability to understand different client needs, and aligns with our clients’ own values of diversity and openness. At the summit, we heard firsthand how our remote model has allowed team members to grow professionally and connect meaningfully, no matter where they’re based. For our clients, this means a team that not only understands their business landscape but also shares their commitment to inclusivity and respect.
This seamless, culturally informed team equates to a smoother experience with the confidence that receivables are managed by a team which understands the local landscape as well as the financial one. It’s a model that allows us to make progress on client needs around the clock, reinforcing Baker Ing’s reputation as a responsive, culturally attuned partner in credit and receivables management.
Moving Forward Together
As we concluded the day with some food, drinks, and just a little partying, we left the summit with a renewed sense of purpose, ready to bring the energy and insights of the day into our daily work.
The meetup translates to working with a team that is aligned, motivated, and dedicated to their success. At Baker Ing, we pride ourselves on being more than just a service provider; we see ourselves as partners invested in helping our clients navigate their most complex credit and receivables challenges. The trust and connection built at the summit empower us to deliver insights and service that go beyond expectations, creating real value for every client.
Reflecting on our time together, it’s clear that while our remote-first structure allows us to operate without borders, it’s the unity within our team that defines Baker Ing. The summit was a celebration of our distributed model, our commitment to inclusivity, and, most importantly, our dedication to client success. As we move into the next quarter, we’ll draw on our shared experiences and strengthened connections to serve our clients with renewed energy and insight.
In the years to come, we’re excited to continue leading as a remote-first organisation, bringing the best of global talent, local insight, and team unity to every client relationship. At Baker Ing, we believe that distance is a strength when paired with purpose, and our purpose is clear: to be a trusted, responsive, and client-centred partner, delivering exceptional service through a model that values flexibility, diversity, and unity.
